(Christopher Manson)Since 1995's Pride and Prejudice, Colin Firth has been invading the dreams of UK women. Since 2001's Bridget Jones's Diary, he has made it even further, into the rooms of American women. So, what is it about this diffident British actor that gets us so hot and heavy? It's the same reason that Mr. Darcy himself got women worked up in the 19th century. Jane Austen's most beloved hero is tall, dark and handsome but also something of an enigma. In the same way, Firth is somewhat distant, though not what I would call unkind. When he was talking to me, however, it did seem like he was paying his dues and would probably have rather continued his conversation with Rachel Blanchard (his 2005 co-star in Where the Truth Lies) than conduct our interview. Firth was in town for the Toronto International Film Festival to promote Genova. Michael Winterbottom's latest film is about a father (Firth) who must look after his daughters after they witness their mother die in a car accident. He decides to move the whole family to Italy to start a new life, but the past proves hard to leave behind. The day after Firth received a cacophany of catcalls from women in the audience of the Genova world premiere, I talked to him about playing a dad and why his favourite aunt was horrified when he told her he was going to play Mr. Darcy. Were you embarassed when all the women cooed at the mention of your name at the 'Genova' premiere? I think it's kind of a reflex action they have amongst themselves, I don't think I really have much to do with it anymore. What made you want to do 'Genova'? There's nothing about it that I think I wouldn't have jumped at. Michael Winterbottom is the director I most wanted to work with - in terms of people who you genuinely think are making a difference to cinema, I think he's up there. He makes it look easy to take a little camera and wobble it around, then you see someone else do it and it does not work. I know he uses improvisation a lot in his films, did you guys mostly improvise on set? It's not absolute improv. I have done a film with absolute improv. I'm always interested by a process that is unfamiliar to me. People are always ready to typecast you and if I can get any room to manoeuvre in my own terms I will. I did a motion capture film with Robert Zemeckis this year [A Christmas Carol] for very similar reasons. Michael Winterbottom is not indifferent to structure, but he never says action, he never says cut. There's no continuity, there's no security on the street to enclose you wherever you are. The flight that you see in the movie, that was just us on the plane - that wasn't chartered, we didn't buy up a block of seats. We got permission from the airline to film, got tickets and boarded the plane and started acting. A still from Genova. (HanWay)It's a bit like theatre but even theatre has a mysterious fourth wall. If I decided to go out of the kitchen and into the bedroom [in Genova], the camera would follow me. Then there would be some poor designer guy hiding behind the bed. Was the fact that you're a dad in real life useful in portraying Joe in the film? I wasn't conscious of using it. You can't get away from the fact that if you're telling a story your own experiences are going to come to bear. Even if you're playing a serial killer, you have to find something that overlaps - even if it's just that you pulled the wings off flies when you were five. Sometimes you're conscious of that, sometimes you're not. On this I wasn't. What was it like working in Italy? It was a pleasure, I have enough of the language to be a bit connected with it. To be frank, the place we were shooting at was a bit of a paradise. You come from a highly academic family. What do they think of you taking on roles from the books they've read [Firth is currently working on an adaptation of 'The Portrait of Dorian Grey']? They are rather used to an awful lot of what I do now. It's getting harder to surprise my parents. I don't think that the characters in Dorian Grey are particularly close to their hearts. I do have other relatives with opinions. I did have an aunt - one of my favourite aunts actually - and when I told her I was going to play Darcy she said [puts his hands up to his face in mock horror], "Oh no! Please don't. I've been in love with him since I was a schoolgirl. No, you'll ruin it forever, please don't." How was working on 'A Christmas Carol'? The suspension of disbelief is challenging to a point because you're wearing weird stuff. The camera's pointing at your face and you're covered in dots and a tight spandex suit... I bet a lot of women would pay to see that. Well, go see Mamma Mia. [Laughs] Genova screens as part of TIFF on Saturday, September 13 at 12:00pm at Ryerson.

He was part of the hit school party at St Trinian's a few months ago and earlier this year was a comfort-eating boyfriend of Uma Thurman in The Accidental Husband. And of course last month he hit the dancefloor and the spandex with Mamma Mia! It's all a long way from brooding Mr Darcy - and Colin couldn't be happier about it. "The more appealing the character is, the more I shy away from it," says the 47 year old, tucking into a sushi snack. "Actually, the more appealing the character is supposed to be the harder the work it is. I really don't believe I ever belonged in romantic roles. And when Darcy came along I thought it was weird they were asking me to play a romantic lead at 35." So it's no surprise that in his next role, he's keeping the smouldering at a minimum to play the less-than-ideal romantic interest for Oscar-winning As Good As It Gets actress Helen Hunt in Then She Found Me. Colin plays a nervy, middle-aged, single father who is depressed after being dumped and close to cracking under the pressure of raising his two children. He says: "He's not everyone's dream man - his temperament is very uneven. A few people have noted he's not perfect boyfriend material." It's been 13 years since Colin Firth became, as Jane Austen might put it, "universally acknowledged" as the definitive Mr Darcy in the BBC's Pride and Prejudice. Since then, the 47-year-old with the warm brown eyes and clipped accent has established himself among worldwide audiences as the man to ask for when it comes to British romantic leads not played by Hugh Grant - who of course played Colin's love rival in Bridget Jones's Diary. Lately, there's been a string of roles for Colin that have been far from conventionally hunky however. When we meet, I tell him that I'm still recovering from his performance as banker Harry Bright, former lover of Meryl Streep's character, who cuts a surprisingly camp figure in the song and dance routines. In fact, in the closing scene, he seems to be the one who is enjoying being togged up in migraine-coloured disco gear and platforms. He says: "There was all this talk - and we had been fitted for costumes we might never wear - and I just thought it all seems pointless to have done this unless you can actually put this costume on at least once. "The costumes hurt a bit. The boys are not used to having their feet in that position, so it was educational, really." Yet when the invitation to become a Dancing Queen first arrived, he admits he wasn't immediately grabbed by the offer. He says: "I wasn't particularly attracted to it - I'd never seen the show and no straight man of my generation would put up his hand as being an ABBA fan. Then I found out that Meryl Streep was doing it and Julie Walters and Stellan Skarsgard, which added up to a group of people I'd love to work with." So he agreed to boldly go where he'd never gone before - and show off his singing and dancing 'skills' on the big screen. But he's under no illusions as to his talents. "Pierce, Stellan and myself were not hired for our dancing skills - that's quite clear. Nobody auditioned us," he says. However he doesn't do a bad job of both singing and strumming his way through his showcase song Our Last Summer. "The song is not very well known; I wasn't ruining a much-loved piece of history," he says. "And I do play the guitar - easy chords. It was one of those things in my boyhood that everybody did. But I was secretly playing things like Lord OfThe Dance and Kumbaya instead of all the cool bands." And of course he has sung publicly once before - in the Trinian's movie, as half of a steamy duet with Rupert Everett who played his love interest in the comedy. Love Is In The Air was the song - and Colin's head is in his hands as he groans at the reminder. "Initially the producers wanted to release our version as a Christmas single but I flatly refused," he says. "I would have had hit-men after me if it was played on the radio. I said I'd come in and try something so long as it was on the end credits only." Still you can't keep him out of the spandex for long at the moment and after Mamma Mia! he was back in another leotard for his role in an animated version of A Christmas Carol. But this time it was a special suit so the computers could capture and mimic Colin's gestures. "That was a very heavy, manhood cancelling spandex," he says. "It held everything in, things you would not want held in. The Abba spandex was different - that bulged where you didn't want it to bulge." Casually dressed, with no unsightly bulges, and with a smattering of grey in his non-designer stubble, Colin is more down to earth than Darcy - and a lot more fun. He only flashes his quick nervous smile occasionally but he's a master of deadpan. At one point I mention that Salman Rushdie also appears in Then She Found Me, as a gynaecologist. And also appeared as himself in two other Firth films, Bridget Jones and When Did You Last See Your Father? Is he worried that that the Booker award-winning author might just be stalking him. "I suspect he is," Colin says, poker-faced. "I don't know what it is. I think if I unearthed his lair I'd find my news cuttings all over the wall, packages and stained garments I once wore." A show-off in his teens, Colin became interested in acting after feeling intoxicated by the praise he received for school plays. "I was less interested in the career options teachers were presenting to me. 'Get a job, get an apprenticeship - do something nine-to-five,' didn't seem very exciting. "But this other world, which was to do with drama and the written word, was much sexier." For many, he will be forever known as Austen's Fitzwilliam Darcy and, despite being a bit broody about this in the past, he's now just politely bored by the topic and the hysteria Mr Darcy still generates. "I still find myself wondering why anyone would find me sexy," he says. "I know people went mad and thought I was a sex symbol - especially when I came out of the lake - but I'd never thought of myself as sexy." With the support of his advisers, he turned down the role of Darcy. He says: "Everybody thought it was a step down." It was a book he hadn't read, but when he did, the surly aristocrat grew on him, until one morning, he woke up with that familiar unease and "suddenly decided it would feel very odd watching someone else do it". And Darcy has been fixed to Firth ever since. Some mornings, when he staggers out of bed, looking less than suave, even his Italian wife Livia can't resist mock-gasping, "Oooh, Mr Darcy". A father of three, including 17-year-old Will from his relationship with Jennifer Tilly /выделено мной. — R./, he insists that Luca, seven, and Matteo, four, are too little to be interested in what their dad does for aliving, although they are sometimes intrigued when they see his face on the side of a bus. Most of his films are too adult for his boys to sit through - and he admits that his fame as the star of the kids' picture Nanny McPhee with Emma Thompson and Kelly Macdonald, proved a mixed blessing. "There was a kid at the nursery school, when I was picking up one of my children, who recognised me and he was only three - which is a bit young for Nanny McPhee actually. "But he knew my character's wife was dead so when he saw me, he burst into tears," he says, still a little disconcerted by the memory. "It's confusing for kids - and my kids as well, so I think you might as well do films for grown-ups and let them watch them years later, when you're not there to take the flak!" "Just in terms of the work because, no offense to crews, but there are no crew," he explains in an interview with CityNews.ca at the InterContinental Hotel in Yorkville. "There are no technicians, no continuity person, no lights, a camera smaller than this one (pointing to the Citytv camera). (Director Winterbottom) doesn't close down the streets, doesn't say 'Action,' doesn't say 'Cut.' So, you're in a room with your family, and you are completely connected to the process the whole time." Genova is an emotionally complex drama about a middle-aged professor who takes his two daughters from America to live in Italy after their mother dies in a car crash. Shot on DV, the film looks beautiful yet feels intimate and raw, as if you've been invited into the lives of three people coping with loss in their own individual ways. Firth, who plays the bereaved father, muses that because the setup was minimal he felt a tangible connection to the process. "There's no auteur as such, you're all creating it, you're all at the heart of it and so it's yours as much as anybody's," he describes. "And even though you're in a fictional world you're able to apply your experiences to it in a way that's quite unusual. If you want to leave the kitchen and go into the bathroom the camera will follow you, with all hope there's nothing in there you're not supposed to see - like the one man props department diving into a laundry hamper to get out of the way." The British actor, who has built an impressive career over the years with roles in films including Bridget Jones's Diary, The English Patient, Girl With A Pearl Earring, and last year's festival selection When Did You Last See Your Father?, says what attracted him to Genova was the honesty of the story. "It's not about grief, it's not about love. It's about family in an everyday situation following, as it happens, the death of the mother," he says. "But you still have to cook the eggs for breakfast, you still have to get the kids to school, life has to operate in some way and I think it observes that and I don't know how else to interpret it." Firth hadn't been to Genova before shooting the film, which occurred over six months, and it clearly captured his heart. "It's an absolutely stunning city. Italy is spoiled for beautiful cities as you know. It's not one of the ones that's necessarily a big destination and perhaps deserves to be," he notes. "Camogli, which is the village on the sea near Genova where we did a lot the shooting, is as wonderful a place for a holiday as I could ever imagine. Watching the film actually, part of the pleasure for me is just the aching to be there."

("она снимала кадр а потом бежала смотреть как получилось". это было утомительно для Колина, смотреть на неё но что поделаешь, облажатся перед Фертом и всеми остальными , если-бы фильм не получился-бы было-бы для Ханта большим позором). Куда ещё мужественнее, если Колин играл грубого мужика(кстати я пропустила!!! он там тоже художник!!!) жена не убежала-бы искать приключение на свою ж...

Так что я прям и не знаю - может Хант как раз прекрасно знала, чего от нее ждут ихние дамы среднего возраста. Мужчины-то факт не поклонники такого. Ну а что Колин - пардон, но скорее всего это деньги и можбыть через несколько лет он так и скажет - как о всяких "Кукловодах".

Это в принципе - можбыть, насколько я дилетент представила себе - файл с данными, которым может быть закодировано все, что угодно - и письмо и виео-медиа-файл. Как где-то сказали - чтоб открыть, надо знать, чем его создали - может кто нам из спецов по компам скажет чего? Некоторые можно просто блокнотом открыть. Вот тут какие-то пояснения, как открыть - click here Ну нашла-скачала я этот fentum.exe, но только он тоже не запускается... Да, я этот файл .дат тоже сохранила у себя.
