Picks Up The King’s Speech By Krystal Clark Hot off their announcement of Halloween 3-D, The Weinstein Company has shifted gears to a historical project entitled, The King’s Speech. According to THR, TWC has picked up the rights to produce the film based on the life of British Royal, King George VI. Tom Hooper, whose previous credits include HBO’s Elizabeth I and John Adams is attached to direct. The story of The King’s Speech will center on George VI (as played by Colin Firth), the father of the current Queen Elizabeth II, who assumed the throne when his brother Edward VIII abdicated in 1936 to marry Wallis Simpson. The film will focus on his efforts to overcome a nervous stammer with the help of speech therapist Lionel Logue, whom will be played by Geoffrey Rush. Production is scheduled to begin this fall, with a theatrical release anticipated for next year. It looks as if the Weinsteins are trying to sucker me in with an underdog story. Colin Firth is such a good choice for this role. He can act, he has class, and a certain vulnerability that will allow him to pull off this character perfectly. Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush is self-explanatory. I can definitely see him as a stern yet unconventional tutor. The good thing about both of these actors is their level of diversity. When I heard that they were cast, I didn’t even flinch. You automatically know the material is in good hands. I’m looking forward to reading more about this film as it develops. Renee Zellweger, however, will be doing something a little differently this time around. Instead of actually eating to gain weight to play the role of the pleasantly plump Bridget Jones and then starving herself to get thin again when filming is finished, this time she will reportedly slip into a fat suit. For the 2001 and 2004 films she indulged in a high-fat diet. But apparently the weight didn't come off quite as easily the last time, and being older one can't help but wonder how much more difficult it might be this time. In addition, Zellweger has also been warned of the negative health consequences of such yo-yo dieting. A souce told the UK's "Reveal" magazine: "Renee will be wearing a fat suit in the third film as it took her a while to lose the weight last time. She's also thinking about the effect quickly putting on and then losing 30 pounds has on her body." Also returning to the film are Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. The premise of the movie is rumored to be Jones' quest to have a baby in her 40s.

But if a new rumor turns out to be true, I will be avoiding the threequel like the gym on a Saturday morning. Or Tuesday afternoon. Or Wednesday evening. I think you get the point. According to Britain's Reveal magazine, "Renee will be wearing a fat suit in the third film as it took her a while to lose the weight last time." Unacceptable. First of all, there aren't enough computers in all of George Lucas' underground villages (true story) to make the stick-thin actress look convincingly chubby. Bottom line: she needs to actually pack on the pounds. This ain't no "Nutty Professor" movie! Also, I feel like the idea of her donning a fatsuit kinda flies in the face of everything fake Bridget and her real fans stand for. The mag is quick to add that Renee's lack of appetite also has a bit to do with the effect gaining and losing the weight again so quickly could have on her body. Sorry, not buying it. There are countless people who lose tons of tons on "The Biggest Loser" only to go home and gain it all back. They're fine. Well, they're not fine, most of them are just one cheese pizza away from cardiac arrest, but that's not because they've gained and lost quickly. I'd seriously think about this decision Renee before legions of angry women chase you down the street in an attempt to force feed you.

His friend Colin Firth says it's one of the wittiest and most moving he's ever read, much the same qualities that attracted him to his current starring role, in Tom Ford's warmly received film A Single Man, with its script based on a Christopher Isherwood novel. Firth (below) and Ford, both decked out in handsome Ford suits when I met them at Bafta, work beautifully together. According to Tom, it's because they're both Virgos. Talk of Oscars surrounds the film – but could it also now be apt for their next project together?
